The Definition of Excess

The photo at the right is not actually as bad as it appears. Yes, technically there are seven iPods sitting on my desk, but three of them belong to Sonja, and of the four remaining, two have long been retired and are now used as extra storage drives.

From left: my silver 1st-gen 4gb mini, my 2nd-gen 20gb, Sonja's 1st-gen 5gb, my 3rd-gen 40gb, Sonja's blue 1st-gen 4gb mini. Front row: My 5th-gen 60gb, Sonja's brand new 5.5-gen 80gb.

Seeing them all lined up has made me realize that they can be put to better use, so I'm going to put the three old white ones in the back row up for sale, probably on Craigslist. If you want an older iPod or have creative ideas for what to do with them (and I know you do), let me know in the comments. The 40gb has a new battery in it, and aside from being the black sheep with its row of touch-sensitive buttons under the screen, it works fine.

Sonja turned 28 on the 27th (which explains the new iPod). She starts a new job tomorrow at Two West in Kansas City. So, congrats on the new age, the new job, and the new iPod, in order of importance.

Also, we're house hunting.

You cannot sell your first gen iPod! That's a piece of history right there... a collector's item.

You know, I thought about keeping it just because it's one of the first, and I still might, but this one is not the actual "first" first-gen iPod we had. This one was a replacement for the real "first" one which had to be sent back to Apple when it crapped out. It might be a moot point anyway, since it's not worth anything on ebay or craigslist any more.
